Holy Week, which starts with Palm Sunday, is the pinnacle of the church year. It’s where everything comes together; it’s where everything is torn apart; it’s where we discover that new life is really new.
And we begin Holy Week by remembering a protest march. Jesus conducts some “street theatre,” to point to injustice, to point to God among us, to demonstrate that his path is not what his followers, let alone the people around them, are expecting, or even wanting.
Following Jesus is not a natural path for us to take. It’s not normal. It doesn’t come naturally.
Yet, it is the path we are called to take.
Even when we can’t see the ending. Even when we are uncomfortable with the journey.
Even if it ends with a cross.
May God bless us with faith as we follow this difficult road.
